I think the English summer is a myth, for the last two summers I either haven't been here or it has been raining, so I just don't believe it exists. So this year (partly thanks to work) Peter and I had our first summer holiday in France, two weeks later we had our second summer holiday in South Africa. Although we have just got back from South Africa and there is so much to tell I should do France justice and blog about that first...
So in summary, and for the highlights version, we spent two weeks camping in the south of France, bliss! Our little home was the tent pictured above, the same tent that Peter used for his trip round Europe. Luckily the weather was like it was in the picture for the whole two weeks with the exception of the first night which was REALLY wet, as in our clothes got so wet we had to do a complete change if you know what I mean! All of the campsites we stayed in were lovely but this was our favorite by a long way.
So the highlights:
- Chamonix and riding the cable car to see Mt Blanc, awesome engineering
- Lac Serre Poncon, lazy days and really nice wine for 2 euros
- Nice and Monte Carlo, nice and flash but wasn't so keen to hang around this area, too popular
- Swimming in the Med
- Camping at Les Tameris, a tiny little coastal place which was lovely
- Kayaking on Ardèche river. I have never been down any sort of rapid in a kayak so I was a little nervous. We got stuck on the first one and that was it I thought I'm not doing any more. However, with my ever patient Peter and knowing I would regret it the following day we did a day long kayak and by the end I was saying to Peter, can we walk the kayak to the top of the rapid and do it again!
- Eating yummy yummy food in Lyon.
So there you have it, our France trip in a nutshell! Of course you can see all our photos here

Oh bliss! I am jealous - no summer holidays for us here unfortunately and I think the Irish "Summer" is worse than the English one! :-(
