I thought it had been a long time since I saw the Queen (about 22 years!) so on the first weekend that Max and Elizabeth (Peter's Parents) were here to stay we headed to Windsor to pay the Queen a visit.
Windsor is another beautiful English town however it is slightly overrun by tourists visiting the Queen and also checking out Eaton College.
Windsor Castle is spectacular, as you may expect being the formal residence of the Queen. It's perched on the top of a hill (a good position for castles I believe) and has some lovely views over the Windsor Parklands and town. We have some photos of the outside of the castle but it is forbidden to take photos inside the castle (fair enough really). So if you really want to know what it is like inside you'll just have to come and visit and we'll take you there!
One of the highlights for me was Queen Mary's Dolls house. It's about 1.5 - 2m tall and it's got incredible detail including a garden, and garden complete with tools! When it was created, local designers were asked to make miniature things to put in it. Totally well worth the visit on it's own!
The second most striking thing about the castle was the amount of things that survive the fire. Windsor Castle caught fire in 1992 destroying many rooms. After a 15hr stuggle with the fire and almost 200 firefighters the blazed was put out. The restoration is now complete and the interior of the castle is amazing. It's very strange being inside some rooms that the Queen still uses, and recognising them from photos of the Queen and family.
