Oxford Floods - Monday's Walkabout

So I had Monday off work, using up some annual leave. I really did have a bit of an engineers day. I watched the morning news to see what was happening around and about with the floods and then headed out for a walk to a different part of Oxford, downstream of us. Here's a few pics for you... (I have uploaded full size ones to Flickr if you really want to get up close!)

This is the Thames downstream from us. You can just see that once you are across the bridge getting to the dry footpath the other side is a little difficult. I did witness someone trying to ride through this and they didn't get very far. It's also really stupid to walk on the path as you can't actually see the edge of the path and the river so you could end up in the fast moving river...

Water front property has and always will have it's disadvantages...
Me thinks this canal boat came lose and has got stuck, good thing really as it wouldn't fit under the bridge 50m downstream of here.
The Head of The River pub, I think that there is a step down that is underwater but I can't really remember, all the tables are stacked up to avoid being washed away.
Christchurch Meadow, doing it's job of being a water meadow, but also the water is getting quite close to the famous and very old Christchurch College.
This is a path that you can usually take to walk round the Christchurch meadow down to the Thames, that's just not going to happen. When I was there you could actually see the water flowing from left to right, into the meadow. This is one of the colleges cricket grounds, perhaps a little wet for cricket, even in England! (This is just to the left of the photo above.

Wow! Having seen that field just a few months ago, that's serious water!
