Thames Path - Part 1

I'm sure you have all heard of the River Thames (it the big one that flows through London...) Well it actually also flows through Oxford, before it gets to London. There is a path alongside the entire length of the river so that you can (if you have two weeks) walk the entire 300km (joy!) Peter and I decided that we would like to walk part of it so we had planned to walk from Oxford to Goring over a long weekend, however due to the location of the campsites, we are actually going to walk from Abingdon to Goring over the long weekend. So we thought that we would do the 14.5km from Oxford to Abingdon today.

If you English geography isn't that good, (shame on you!) I have included a little map courtesy of the Thames Path homepage. Our trip today was from number 5 to number 6. Our Thames path trip 2 will be from number 6 to the white dot between number 7 and 8.

The walk itself was reasonable. We went through some very pretty locks but most of the walk was through farmland with the river on one side.

Much to Peter's delight we came across a motocross track in operation. So 20mins of our trip was watching these noisy things race around the track and Peter and I having a little discussion on weather or not I wanted to spend my Sundays watching him do motocross or not when we return to NZ. For those that have heard a motocross track may know what my initial response would be, however on watching them it is quite cool, so maybe I will be spending the odd afternoon getting dusty and very worried while watching Peter hurtle up and down and all around a little dirt track!

Anyway, back to the walk. We managed to get to Abingdon about an hour after our 3hr expected time and had a reasonable lunch at a lovely riverside pub. Then it was on to the bus for the 10min drive home! As an illustration of just how unfit Peter and I are, we had to have a little nap when we got back.

In other news we found out what happened to Boris' children, they were at day nursery with Matron!
